Yes. Caroline Lufkin is an acoustic/electronic/pop artist. But that would be terribly misleading. For the sum of her musical parts is something quietly grander. Akin to German band The Notwist, Caroline has a rare ability to caress glitches, echoes and ambient swells into swashes of human warmth. Coupled with her voice that is always searching, this sensitivity ends up sending little shocks to your heart. Just take a listen to "Swimmer" off her 2011 album Verdugo Hills. For Snakeweed Sessions, she drifts away from her usual electronica-laced setups. Stripped down and bare, but no less intriguing. A personal back-to-basics, if you will. This solo hole-up pieced together Hanging Up The Moon - 11 tracks recorded fully at home, and at ungodly hours. As testament to his craftsmanship, the songs feel found. As if they have already been sung for decades. Sung by strangers halfway across the world, to sons and daughters as they curl up round a fire.
